South African popular Amapiano vocalist Babalwa M recently didn't impress many of her fans with her latest live performance on social media, which some dubbed an epic fail.
An online user @PianoConnectSA posted a video on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, of Babalwa M performing on a stage live with her boyfriend, Kelvin Momo, behind the decks.
In the video, it seemed as if the singer who dropped a new song Candour, in October 2024, was off-key, while other netizens claimed that she might have been intoxicated.

Netizens react to Babalwa's live performance
Shortly after the video was shared on social media, many netizens flooded the comment section with their reactions to the singer's live performance. Here's what they had to say:
@TheGeopol said:
"She can’t sing, her nose still has snow & she keeps covering her body while performing. Leave music guys, it’s not for everyone."
@LadyLuh24 wrote:
"I blame alcohol for everything. The voice, the body, the overall presentation. Can’t be sober."
@BigLerato_ defended Babalwa M:
"There’s nothing wrong with this, she’s just tipsy but still sings beautifully."
@LungiMpanz commented:
"Why are people using the fact that she might be drunk, and that’s why her voice sounds like that? Call out your favourite artists, guys, because she genuinely sounds exactly like this every live performance."
@Sthibane001 responded:
"No, man, our artists don't take the craft seriously. What kind of mediocre performance is this? What a horrible performance. Off-key throughout the performance. I'm starting to believe that live performances are not for everyone."
@Asihevephela replied:
"This girl, vocally, she is very weak. However, she has a very excellent understanding of music; now merge her with Mawhoo, and you will have a global powerhouse."
@AndyGeneral3 said:
"She was drunk, why perform while you know you are under the influence?"

Babalwa and her man lit the stage
In the video posted in June 2025, on X by @PianoconnectSA, which has since gone viral, the two lovebirds were performing Babalwa's hit song, Bo Thata. The song came shortly after the break-up rumours swirled when Momo was pictured with another woman.
The song is from her EP Candour, which was released on 25 October 2024. In that same year, in April, Babalwa released her seven-track EP titled Pisces. Both projects feature the amapiano music producer.
The couple was rumoured to have ended things. However, after months of ignoring the hype, they debunked the rumours during Momo's Red Bull Symphonic. The sold-out show ran for three days, and it took place at The Theatro in Johannesburg alongside Adam Howard and the Egoli Symphonic Orchestra.

Fans were left emotional by Kelvin Momo's Instagram post, highlighting the immense support his parents gave him.
