‘Open Chats’ Podcast Loses Deal With DStv After Their Comments About Coloured Community

Yoh, Open Chats podcast is really feeling the heat all because of the racist remarks they had made on one of their episodes regarding the Coloured community, which resulted in them losing a major deal with the biggest video entertainment company in South Africa.
According to TshisaLIVE, the controversial podcast that has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons on social media recently lost its deal with DStv. The publication reported that it was allegedly because of the hurtful comments they made about the Coloured community.

The news about them losing this major deal came after several netizens and celebrities called them out for this unruly behaviour, and even made the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, take legal action against them.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, MultiChoice spokesperson, Suzaan Keyter, confirmed with the publication that they had ended their contract with the podcast in July 2025, and that it was to make way for their August content.

She said:
"MultiChoice is aware of recent comments made on the Open Chats Podcast. Open Chats’ contract with DStv ended on July 25 as the show was removed to make way for our August content slate. The [derogatory] episode was not aired on our platform. MultiChoice adheres to stringent quality control processes and does not promote any discriminatory content."
Major League DJz react to podcast remarks
Bakwa Lah hitmakers, Major League DJz, took to Twitter on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, to call out not only the podcasters but podcasts as a whole. Their message points to them noticing a growing trend of sensationalism and rage-baiting among SA podcasts.
"These podcasts are getting out of hand now. People are just saying things for reactions and trends. SMH," they wrote.
The DJs were not the only ones to call them out. Even Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, threatened legal action against the podcast:
"We must never allow people to become that comfortable," he said.
"I want a report today on how we're going to deal with those who said that people of coloureds are 'crazy'."
He instructed members of the Patriotic Alliance who are lawyers to provide a report on the action that would be taken against the podcast.
