South African talented young actor Mahlatse Moropa recently caused a buzz on social media after his sexuality was under scrutiny when he made a daring appearance at the Basadi In Music Awards on Friday, 1 August 2025.

Recently, according to Sunday World, the Skeem Saam award-winning star decided to set the record straight about his sexuality and put an end to the rumours and speculations that have been making rounds online.

The young creative who plays the role of Letetswe Kunutu on the popular TV soapie, said:

"No, no, no, no — I am not gay. I’ve learnt not to care about what the next person says. I am a never-mind type of person. If it doesn’t bring me money, I don’t care. If you give attention to what people are saying, you will die mentally. Some people have even [taken their own lives] because of social media. I do my own thing, I live my life, I am a creative, and I don’t owe anyone explanations."

Moropo also mentioned that he had to decline invitations he had been getting from podcasts for him to "clear the air" about this issue.

"That would be giving people the power to control me into admitting something I’m not. I don’t see the need. I was speaking to my partner, and she asked how I felt about the comments. And I told her, ‘absolutely nothing’, I did all of that intentionally — right down to the outfits. I went with the drama. I live my life. I’m not here to explain myself," he said.

Mahlatse Moropo directed Makhadzi's latest music video

The Skeem Saam actor hasn't only hogged headlines regarding his sexuality this year, as in May 2025, Briefly News had reported that the 22-year-old award-winning actor who stars opposite Thabo Mkhabela as Letetswe Kunutu in the educational soapie opened up about directing Makhadzi's video.

He revealed to Daily Sun that he and the singer go way back and that they always support each other, just like when she believed in his vision regarding her music video.

"She believed in my vision, and I trusted her sound, that's how it came to life," says the actor.
