Former ‘Generations’ Actress Pamela Nomvete Reveals She’s Being Denied Her SA Citizenship

Talented actress Pamela Nomvete went on a rant and aired out her struggles with securing South African citizenship.
The former Generations actress is a South African Brit, born in Ethiopia when her parents were in exile. Since 1994, she has been granted dual citizenship.
However, with her passport having expired, Nomvete is struggling to secure citizenship, and she let her frustrations out.

On Saturday, 23 August 2025, Pamela Nomvete looked back at her last stage performance at the Market Theatre. She then revealed her struggles behind closed doors, leaving many of her followers saddened.

The star, who recently landed a role in a UK action thriller, played the role of Ntsiki Lukhele said her passport has expired, and the Department of Home Affairs wants her to prove her late parents' citizenship.
"I am sitting here feeling despondent and in pain. In 1994, I went to my ancestral land, South Africa, having been born in exile and acquired my South African citizenship so I could vote for a black majority government. The South African government welcomed us exiles, happy for us to hold dual citizenship!" she exclaimed.
Nomvete said the department wants her to produce her late parents' ID documents and birth certificates, to prove their SA citizenship. Because she cannot hand in these supporting documents, she cannot travel to the country. The actress finds this off because she believes these documents should be on record at Home Affairs.
"I went through hell and high water to produce this very evidence back then!" she added.
Although she has her British passport, she revealed that she needs her SA passport as well
"I am heartbroken but shall still fight to get my passport and be recognised as a dual citizen South African Brit born in Ethiopia! Surely the world should be our playground. Once an exile, always an exile! I am sorry, but I had to vent," she closed off.
