The country is up in arms over the Russian Programme, which was advertised by South African influencers. Personalities such as Cyan Boujee and others were called out for promoting the school, which mainly targeted 18 to 22-year-old women.

On Anele and the Club on 947, the team called the 'school' to get more information about this, and they raised some serious red flags.

Anele weighs in on Cyan Boujee and more

Speaking at her morning show on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, Anele Mdoda said she finds this program dubious because it targets young girls and uses young influencers who portray a certain lifestyle.

"You are targeting the most vulnerable in society. It is really no secret that in South Africa, women and children are the most endangered species on the continent. You know that economically, women are going through a lot. So, you target 18 to 22-year-olds, and some of them have already deemed themselves failures because they did not go to varsity or they barely passed matric. All of a sudden, somebody comes and says, 'Housing and jobs.' We have got the highest youth unemployment in the world," she remarked.

The team finds it strange that none of the videos clearly state what the job entails, making this a huge red flag.

"You use influencers who portray a life of success. We do not know how those girls make their money, and I am not here to judge Cyan Boujee and how she makes her money. But all of a sudden, I am involved because you already know your life is being funded dubiously. All of the things you have are not for somebody who works an 8-to-5," she added.

They argued that the influencers who were part of the campaign are the youngest in the country, so it was fitting for them to be used to lure the young women.

Anele and team contact Russian Program

The team made numerous phone calls to the numbers tied to the programme, with some people dropping the calls when they were asked if they spoke English.

After many attempts, one of them answers and explains that this programme allows the young people to travel to Russia, gain skills to work in their factories, study, and get free housing. The supposed programme takes two years, but that depends on which route the applicant chooses. He assured that the work environments are safe.

The station opened the line to callers to share their thoughts, and a woman named Amanda called in to speak about her cousin's experience with working at a company in Thailand, which has similar recruitment methods to Alabuga.

"The process was done via WhatsApp," Amanda said, adding that they promised her R10,000 upfront to travel and leave her family behind. "When she got there, they told her that her accommodation ticket was not valid. She was stuck without a place to stay, so they deported her back to South Africa. However, the airline held her passport. This boss got upset with her, asking why she went back."

Amanda said they paid for tickets to get her passport back and her accommodation. They were moved from Thailand to Myanmar, and the "working" conditions were alarming.
