Former ‘Gomora’ Actor Thulani Mtsweni: “Comedy Is My Specialty”

Comedic actor Thulani Mtsweni recently opened up about being a typecast actor and what it meant for him to join the cast of Isidingo.
The popular South African actor previously shared in an interview that he got his acting break on SABC3's canned soapie Isidingo, where he played the role of Sibiya.
Mstweni, who recently starred in Mandla N's Mabaso Family Reunion, has secured a role on Black Gold to star opposite former Umkhokha: The Curse star Mbali Ngiba.

The former Gomora actor recently shared in an interview with Sowetan that he doesn't mind being typecast as he considers comedy to be his specialty.

The publication shared Mtsweni's video interview on its X account on Tuesday, 19 August 2025.
Mtsweni portrays the character of Majika on the Black Brain TV show alongside Warren Masemola, Zamani Mbatha, and Dawn Thandeka King.
The actor, who usually rocks his signature afro that is bald in the middle and a full beard, shared with the publication that he doesn't worry about being typecast for roles because he believes that bringing comedic relief is what he was meant to do.
Mtsweni also shares that he wouldn't play a doctor role because of the vocabulary that doctors use.
"Yes, I could study and prepare, but it would take me a very long time to get it right," says the star.
Mtsweni, who became a household name for his mining character as Bhekizizwe Sibiya on Isidingo, adds that he's grateful to the directors and producers for giving him the opportunity.
The cast of Black Gold
The highly anticipated Black Brain Pictures TV show premiered on BET_Africa (DSTV channel 129) on Monday, 18 August 2025, at 18:30. The show airs Mondays to Thursdays with evening repeats at 21:30.
Black Gold is set in KwaZulu-Natal and focuses on Amandla Zungu, played by Nomalanga Shozi.
Shozi is joined by former Uzalo actress Dawn Thandeka King, who plays her stepmother, Florence Zungu, while former Skeem Saam actor Sello Maake KaNcube plays Florence's lover, Tom Motsepe.
Other cast members include Shaka ILembe star Zamani Mbatha, who plays Tom's son, Zakhele Motsepe.
TV personality and former The Queen actress Nomsa Buthelezi portrays a brothel queen known as MaBrrr.
Former The River and Skeem Saam actor Warren Masemola steps into the role of Kotsi, while legendary actor Ernest Ndlovu plays Bhekumbuso Zungu.
Talented actress Ashleigh Herman stars as Starlight, and she will be joined by Zinhle Sithole, who portrays the role of a teenager, Abongwe Zungu.
Former The Queen actor and TV personality Siphesihle Vazi steps into the character of Ma-a Motsepe.
Additional cast members include Lwazi Dlamini, Mbaliyesizwe Ngiba, Warren Van Rooyen, Sikhulile Mgaga, Fraincois Jacobs, Robert Wood, and Michelle Ayden.
