A local woman shared an inspirational video giving viewers a glimpse into a luxury lifestyle, sparking a lively online debate about the value of hair care.
The glamorous clip, shared on TikTok by @miss.anele, was met with a mix of shock and praise from social media users.
The video began with @miss.anele, documenting her flight journey to Johannesburg, a trip booked specifically to visit the Majestic Premium La Maison salon. Upon her arrival in Joburg, she changed and headed straight to the salon. She was immediately offered a bottle of Fiji water, which she noted was her first time tasting. Her hairpiece had been carefully divided into sizes she would need and placed on fibre stands before her arrival, highlighting the personalised nature of the service.
The majestic premium experience
She then underwent a scalp treatment, which included an analysis using an HD machine that revealed signs of sensitivity on her scalp, which she attributed to potential irritation and exposure to chemicals. She was then given a massage rub to relax her scalp and promote blood circulation, followed by a vessel brush, which helps to stimulate hair growth and minimise dandruff. The entire scalp treatment alone was R1050.

Anele then proceeded to her braids, installed with three human hair bundles, costing R1000 each. Labour alone was around R13000, with the total nearing R4500. With the R1050 scalp treatment, the total amount went up to R5500. After the braids were installed, the hairstylist steamed her curls and used a Fenty by Rihanna styling gel for the edges, ensuring every detail was perfect.

An expert perspective on luxury hair
The Briefly News team spoke with local salon owner Lusanda Tyawana to gain her professional insights on the luxury salon that captivated the online world.
The total amount paid by the lady for the scalp assessment, treatment and braids was R5500. We asked Lusanda how this price point compares to the market. She said:
"That is a very high price and well above the average. When you, however, consider that it includes a full scalp treatment and three human hair bundles for the braids, it becomes more understandable. A price like that is not just for the hair; it is for the entire luxury and all-inclusive experience."
We asked if specialised services like scalp analysis and brushes that stimulate hair growth were becoming more popular and may soon be a standard expectation for clients today. The salon owner responded:
"Yes, I believe so. Clients are becoming more educated about their hair and scalp health. They want a service that goes beyond just the aesthetic. Offering a scalp analysis and specialised treatment shows that you care about their long-term health, and that's becoming a key point of difference.

When asked if it was the norm for a client to fly from their city to another just to do hair, Lusanda shared:
"It's not a common practice, at least not at my salon, but it is not unheard of either. For some high-end clients, it's not about convenience, but about the experience. When you find a salon that offers a unique service and a stylist you trust, you are willing to travel a great distance for it. The Majestic Salon had clearly created a niche market.
Mzansi discusses the price tag
The clip gained massive views, likes, and comments from social media users who were shocked at the prices and the fact that she flew to Johannesburg just for braids. Many jokingly said that when they saw the Fiji water, they knew that it was no ordinary salon.
This sentiment captured the shock of many who were surprised by the luxury and all-inclusive nature of the salon. Others, however, felt that the price was reasonable considering all the services that were included, such as the scalp analysis and hair growth treatments.
