"I completely understand that being away from your family for 10 months can take an emotional toll on both the family and the flight attendant. My longest time away was still back when SAA used to fly to Miami on a 13-day flight, and those would feel like forever. That kind of separation is a sacrifice you have to make, but the reunion and seeing your family's joy make it all worth it. I also had to endure quarantine after my return from a repatriation flight to fetch citizens in China.

We asked Nosiphiwo what some of the biggest sacrifices she faced were, being constantly away from her family. She shared:

"The biggest challenge was missing out on family events. You miss birthdays, graduations, holidays, and sometimes funerals. While you are seeing the world, you are also away from home, and that can be lonely and stressful, especially if you have kids. You have to build a strong support system with your colleagues, who often become family away from home."

When asked if being a flight attendant is as glamorous as people believe it to be, an amused Nosiphiwo said:

"It's not all glamour. While it is a great career that offers a lot of travel and new experiences, there are many hidden challenges. You have to deal with jet lag, long hours, and the pressure to always be professional and perfectly groomed. It is a very demanding job that requires a lot of discipline and resilience."
