What did the minister say?
Ramokgopa has tasked the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) with assessing the framework and identifying ways to bring prices down. The minister said that electricity price adjustments further strain businesses and households in South Africa.
He said that it is important to settle on a tariff that would not put a burden on households and would also help Eskom achieve its financial goals. The minister stated that his department is currently looking at ways to reduce the prices of electricity.

Dr Ramokgopa said that he was advising the Electricity Pricing Policy (EPP) to address the issue of the cost of electricity. The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) approved a 12.74% electricity tariff increase, which took effect on 1 April 2025.
Eskom grid improving
Ramokgopa said that the country's electricity grid is stable and strong. In January, Eskom announced that Koeberg's nuclear unit had been fully synchronised to the grid and added 930MW of electricity.
Ramokgopa said that the state utility is doing its best to maintain the national grid as it faces pressure due to an increased demand in winter. He said the higher-than-expected demand, planned maintenance.

In another report, Briefly News stated that Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has updated South Africans on the electricity crisis, and things are allegedly looking up.
