GQEBERHA, EASTERN CAPE — South Africans were relieved when the Gqeberha Regional Court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his daughter for eight years and impregnating her.

According to SABC News, the man appeared in court on 21 August 2025 and was handed a stiff sentence for abusing his daughter for almost a decade. The court heard that she moved in with him following a family dispute. That is when her horrific experience began.

Men who were sentenced for rape

The Edenburg Regional Court in Edenburg, Free State, sentenced a pastor to two life terms on 23 May 2025 for raping his stepdaughter multiple times for three years. The child, who was a minor when the abuse began, stayed with him while his mother worked night shifts, and was raped from 2019 to 2022.

A court in Pretoria sentenced a 32-year-old man for raping a girl with Down syndrome in 2022. The incident happened at the flats where the victim lived with her mother. He lured her into his apartment and raped her. He argued that they had consensual sex, and he thought she was 17 years old.
