Limpopo Community Takes Action After 9-Year-Old Girl Alleges Sexual Abuse by Brother

  • Community members in Lwandlamuni village, Limpopo took action after a 9-year-old disclosed to them that her 18-year-old brother sexually abused her

The community of Lwandlamuni village in Limpopo expressed the true meaning of it took a village to raise a child. This comes after a 9-year-old girl disclosed to them that her older brother allegedly sexually abused her.

What happened?

It is alleged that 18-year-old suspect called his younger sister, a 9-year-old, in to the house where he sexually abused her. The sister later told the community member about the incident. On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, the community member took both the victim and and the suspect to the N’wa Mitwa satellite police station in Limpopo.

Police register the case with the Letsitele Police Station which was later transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

Mother also arrested

The 18-year-old suspect appeared in court on Friday, 22 August 2025, and was remanded in custody. The 35-year-old mother was arrested on Saturday, 23 August 2025, on charges of failing to report the incident.

Both accused will appear before court on Monday, 25 August 2025. Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the residents of Lwandlamuni village for protecting the young victim by reporting the incident.

Police stated that investigations are ongoing and that additional charges may be brought as the matter proceeds through the courts.

SAPS arrested almost 4000 suspects for rape

In a earlier article, Briefly News reported that the South African Police Service (SAPS)'s National Commissioner Fanie Masemola said that the police arrested just under 4000 suspects for rape and attempted rape since October 2024. South Africans believed that many of them were falsely accused.

The police arrested 3983 suspects who were accused of rape and attempted rape. Masemola also revealed that 685 gender-based violence perpetrators were convicted between October 2024 and December 2024.
