Jessica Motaung has hit back at critics over claims that Kaizer Chiefs are avoiding spending big transfer fees on players this summer.

Amakhosi are still yet to announce new signings this summer, but have reportedly reached agreements with some players like Ethan Chislett, Thabiso Monyane, and Paseka Mako.

The Soweto giants' Marketing & Commercial Director reiterates that the club spends a lot on transfers.

Motaung claps back at critics about Chiefs transfer

Kaizer Chiefs have faced ongoing criticism in recent years for allegedly avoiding big-money transfers and focusing instead on free agents. But club director Jessica Motaung has firmly dismissed those claims, calling them “absolute nonsense” and pointing to significant investments made, particularly in the technical team last season.

“Chiefs spend a lot on player recruitment,” she said in response to suggestions that the club is regularly outbid.
“I find those comments quite surprising. If you look at our budgets and the financial commitment we’ve made in both the transfer market and player development, it tells a very different story.”

Motaung also urged a broader reflection on the local football economy.

“It’s important that the South African market asks the right questions, are player valuations realistic? Are negotiations fair? We have to assess our industry. That said, we’ve clearly shown our intent with the resources allocated last season, not just on players but on strengthening the technical setup as well. Ultimately, it’s about making smart investments that deliver results.”

Orlando Pirates are already making statement signings this summer, with the Sea Robbers announcing the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns star Sipho Mbule, who was earlier linked with Kaizer Chiefs.

The Sea Robbers' investment in the transfer market this summer became even more 'annoying' to Kaizer Chiefs fans after their city rivals announced the signing of seven players at once, with some of the players on the list being linked with their club but now set to turn out for their bitter rivals.

The Glamour Boys are still expected to make massive announcements for players joining the club this summer, and they've been doing some behind-the-scenes work.

All the players claimed to be on their way to Kaizer Chiefs are still yet to be considered as statement signings, which is one of the reasons the Soweto giants have been accused of trying to avoid spending big on transfers this summer.

Briefly News also reported that Lucas Radebe was left disappointed after Kaizer Chiefs decided to sign two former Orlando Pirates stars this summer.
